Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan (March 11, 2011)

Earthquake and tsunami hit Japan on Friday, March 11, 2011. An earthquake measuring 8.8 Ritcher scale occurred off the coast in northeastern Japan. The quake shake buildings in the capital city of Tokyo, causing “many people injured”, and at least one fire and triggered a tsunami warning to a height of 10 meters. Similarly, NHK television reported, and witnesses.

NHK showed footage of black smoke billowing from a building in Odaiba, Tokyo suburb, and fast trains to the north of the country stopped. Television pictures showed cars bobbing in the water beside the boat.

tsunami hit the coast of northern Japan. “The building shook for what seemed a long time and many people in the newsroom took their helmets and some got under the table,” said Reuters correspondent, Linda Sieg. “Maybe this is the worst earthquake I have felt since I came to Japan more than 20 years ago.”
